Biography

Joseph P. McDermott, MD, FACS, received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. Furthering his education, Dr. McDermott completed a fellowship in surgical endoscopy at The Medical Center of Central Massachusetts in Worcester, Massachusetts. His clinical interests include trauma care and acute care surgery. 

Dr. McDermott is board certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Medical Association, and many more. Dr. McDermott has been practicing in Virginia Beach since 1998. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, kayaking, and hiking throughout Virginia with his wife and three daughters.
