What is Cardiology?

Cardiology is the study of the heart and its functions.  Cardiologists receive extensive training, to include four years of medical school, three years of training in general internal medicine, and three or more years in specialized training.  Symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pains, or dizzy spells might require special testing from a cardiologist.  Cardiologists help those with heart disease return to a full and useful life, as well as counsel patients about the risks and prevention of heart disease.

Cardiology provides diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel conditions and diseases, including:
• Arrhythmia
• Coronary Artery Disease
• Congenital Heart Defects
• Cardiomyopathy
• Heart Failure
• High Blood Pressure
• Metabolic Syndrome
• Peripheral Artery Disease
• Valve Disease
• Vein Disease
