Juan R. Gelpi, MD received his undergraduate education from Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. He graduated with his medical degree from George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, DC. Dr. Gelpi completed his General Surgery residency at New England Medical Center of Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed his Colon and Rectal Surgery residency at Ferguson Clinic/ Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a fellowship in Transplant Surgery at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
Dr. Gelpi is Board Certified in General Surgery, and Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Gelpi is fluent in English, and Spanish. His interests include the surgical management of benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus, as well as fecal incontinence. Dr. Gelpi has been a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery, and is pleased to be participating in the introduction of robotic surgery to Virginia Beach.
He has had the honor of being the President of the Virginia Beach Medical Society, and will be the chairman of robotic surgery at Virginia Beach General Hospital starting in the fall of 2017.
